The right care routine is what separates extensions that look great for a few weeks from extensions that stay beautiful for months. Our pieces are made from premium synthetic fibre (no human hair), and that fibre rewards gentle, consistent handling. This guide walks you through washing, detangling, storage and heat styling, plus a clear list of dos and don'ts so your set keeps its shine and movement for as long as possible.
Why synthetic fibre needs its own care routine
Premium synthetic fibre is engineered to look and feel natural, but it behaves differently from human hair. It does not regenerate natural oils, it does not need conditioner in the same way, and it is far more sensitive to high heat. The good news: once you understand these few differences, caring for your extensions becomes a quick, predictable routine rather than a chore.
How often should you wash your extensions?
Less is more. Because synthetic fibre is not exposed to scalp oils, it stays fresh much longer than your own hair. As a rule of thumb, wash your extensions only after several wears, or when product build-up, smoke or fragrance starts to dull the fibre. Over-washing is one of the most common reasons extensions wear out early.
Step by step
- Detangle first with your fingers and a wide-tooth comb before any water touches the fibre.
- Use lukewarm water and a small amount of mild, sulphate-free shampoo. Hot water can stress the fibre.
- Stroke gently from top to bottom. Never rub, twist or scrub.
- Rinse thoroughly and press out excess water with a towel. Do not wring.
- Air-dry only, laid flat or hung up. Skip the blow dryer.
Detangling without damage
Always work from the ends upwards in small sections, holding the weft or clip base so you do not pull on the fibre attachment. A wide-tooth comb or a loop brush is ideal. Never tug through knots, and never detangle wet synthetic fibre aggressively, as that is when fibres are most likely to stretch or break.
Storing your extensions the right way
Storage is where many people lose length and shine without realising it. After each wear, gently detangle and let the fibre cool and settle.
- Store flat or hanging in the original box or a soft pouch, away from dust.
- Keep them out of direct sunlight and away from radiators.
- Avoid loose drawers where clips and wefts can tangle with other items.
Heat styling: handle with real caution
This is the single most important rule for synthetic fibre. High heat from straighteners, curling irons and blow dryers can permanently warp, frizz or melt the fibre. Treat your extensions as heat-sensitive by default. Style on the lowest possible setting only if your specific piece is marked as heat-friendly, always test on a hidden section first, and when in doubt, skip the heat entirely. Most styling can be achieved without it.
Dos and don'ts at a glance
Do
- Detangle gently before and after every wear.
- Wash only when needed, with lukewarm water and mild shampoo.
- Air-dry and store flat or hanging.
- Be patient and gentle with knots.
Don't
- Don't apply high heat or assume the fibre is heat-resistant.
- Don't over-wash or use hot water.
- Don't rub, wring or brush aggressively.
- Don't sleep, swim or shower in your extensions.
How long do extensions last?
With gentle, consistent care, a premium synthetic set will hold its look across many wears. Lifespan depends entirely on how often you wear them and how carefully you treat the fibre, heat and washing in particular. When the fibre starts to lose its bounce or shine despite good care, it is simply time for a fresh set.
