Hair Extensions Guide: Choose, Measure, Match & Apply

Which hair extensions are right for you?

More length, more volume, a whole new look in minutes – with no glue, no heat and no salon appointment. This guide takes you from choosing the right type to measuring length, matching your colour, applying step by step, and caring for and storing your set. Every Hairglamour style is made from premium synthetic fibre with a natural, matte finish and is matched across more than 20 shades.

Halo vs Clip-In vs One-Piece

First things first: which type suits you? It comes down to how fast you want it and how much volume you're after.

  • Halo (invisible wire): The easiest option. The piece sits on a transparent, invisible wire that disappears under your own hair. On in under five minutes, ideal for beginners and for instant length with no fuss.
  • One-Piece Clip-In: A wide weft with clips you set in a single move. Perfect for everyday fullness and length when you're short on time.
  • Full-Head / 4-Piece Clip-In: Several wefts for an all-around look. The most natural distribution and the most volume, because the hair sits evenly across the head – ideal for special occasions or a complete change.

When in doubt: Halo for speed and ease, 4-piece clip-in for maximum fullness.

How to measure extension length

Extension length is measured from the clip or wire edge to the hair tip – not from your parting. That's why the numbers can look shorter than expected at first, yet fall exactly right on the head. Hold a tape measure loosely against your lengths to see where each length lands on your body.

  • 35–40 cm: Around chin to shoulder. Adds fullness to shorter styles and a subtle bob.
  • 45–50 cm: Around the bust. The most popular, everyday length for visibly more hair.
  • 55–60 cm: Well below the bust. Noticeable length with an elegant fall.
  • 65 cm: A long, statement mane for a big entrance.

Tip: Your own hair length extends the overall look – factor it in, and when in doubt go a touch longer, since you can always trim.

How to find your extension colour

One simple rule: match to your mid-lengths and ends, not your roots. That's where extensions meet your own hair, and where the blend should disappear.

  • Compare the shade in daylight, not warm artificial light.
  • If you're between two tones, go lighter – it looks the most natural and flatters the face.
  • For highlights or a balayage, match to the lightest tone in your lengths.

Step-by-step application

Applying a Halo

  • Brush your hair smooth and create a clean centre parting.
  • Place the wire like a headband: over the hairline at the front, just above the ears at the back.
  • Gently pull a thin layer of your own hair over the wire so it disappears completely.
  • Blend the transitions with your fingers or a soft brush.

Inserting clip-ins

Here's how to apply clip-ins in minutes – whether one-piece or 4-piece:

  • Using a tail comb, part a horizontal section just above the nape and clip the upper hair out of the way.
  • Lightly tease the parted section at the roots so the clips grip and won't slide.
  • Open all clips on the widest weft, place it along the parting, and snap each clip closed against the teased roots.
  • Release a new section above and clip in the next-narrowest weft. Repeat with smaller wefts on the sides for face-framing volume.
  • Finally, brush everything smooth so your hair and the extensions melt into one layer.

Care & washing

With the right care, your extensions stay beautiful for months.

  • Brushing: Always from the ends upward, with a soft brush or wide-tooth comb – this prevents tugging and tangles.
  • Washing: Only when needed, and gently. Draw through lukewarm water with a little mild shampoo, rinse well, and don't rub or wring.
  • Drying: Press out gently with a towel and let air-dry flat.

Heat styling: caution with synthetic fibre

Style your extensions gently and avoid direct strong heat such as straighteners and curling irons – intense heat can damage the premium synthetic fibre. Instead, lean into the beautiful, natural movement already built into the fibre. When in doubt, style cool rather than hot.

How to store them

  • Between wears, keep your extensions flat in the pouch provided so they stay dust-free and in shape.
  • Brush through and let them dry completely before storing.
  • Avoid direct sun and radiator heat where you store them.
