Length Guide: Which Extension Length Suits You?
The right length determines whether your extensions look like they naturally belong to you. To help you decide with confidence, we'll show you here how we measure at HairGlamour, why the same length looks different on different women and roughly where each of our lengths falls. That way you'll find your length without any guesswork.
How we measure length
For all of our length specifications, we measure from the weft or band to the tip of the hair – that is, along the strand itself, not from the part or hairline on your head. A 50 cm strand is therefore exactly 50 cm of hair length, starting from where the clip-in later sits in your own hair.
Want to check it yourself? Take a tape measure, hold the zero point at the spot where the extensions roughly sit (usually around the back of the head to the nape), and let the tape fall down along your body. That way you'll see, to the centimetre, where a given length would reach on you. This self-measurement is the most reliable method – more reliable than any general chart.
Why the same length looks different
Centimetres are objective – but your height isn't. A 50 cm strand falls noticeably lower on a woman of around 1.60 m than on a woman of around 1.75 m. On the shorter person, the same length can already reach toward the chest, while on the taller one it reaches more toward the shoulder blade. Your neckline, the shape of your head and the position of the clips also come into play.
So please treat the following chart as a guide, not an exact promise. It refers to an average height of around 1.68 m. If you're shorter, every length tends to look longer; if you're taller, shorter.
Length chart: Where does each length roughly fall?
Values rounded, based on a height of around 1.68 m. All figures are guide values (approx.) and vary depending on height and hairline.
| Length | Falls roughly to | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|
| 35 cm | approx. chin–shoulder | bob and long-bob looks, more fullness without added length |
| 40 cm | approx. shoulder | natural everyday look, subtle transition from a bob |
| 45 cm | approx. shoulder blade | classic medium-length mane, versatile to style |
| 50 cm | approx. chest | the most popular length – long hair that still stays everyday-friendly |
| 55 cm | approx. below the chest | noticeably long hair with a wow effect |
| 60 cm | approx. start of waist | dramatic length for special occasions and statement looks |
| 65 cm | approx. waist | maximum mane, glamorous mermaid look |
Factor in the wave: wavy hair looks shorter
One point many underestimate: our strands made from premium synthetic fibre come straight and wavy – and wavy hair looks about 5 cm shorter than straight hair of the same centimetre measurement. The wave "uses up" length, because the hair doesn't fall straight down but in arcs.
So if you're choosing between our Sleek Straight Halo and a wavy model like the Natural Wave Halo and want to reach a certain final length, go ahead and choose one step longer for the wavy model. When straightened, the fibre returns to its full length.
Which length for which goal?
- Subtle boost: Mainly want more fullness and a little more length without it being noticeable? Then you'll be right close to your current hair length or one to two steps above it – around 35–45 cm, depending on your starting length.
- Noticeably longer: Want a clear difference that still stays everyday-friendly? Then the 50 cm length is the safe choice – not without reason our most popular.
- Dramatic mane: Want a real statement, long flowing hair for photos, events or simply for that big glamour feeling? Then go for 55–65 cm.
When in doubt, go a little longer
If you're torn between two lengths, choose the longer option. Shortening is always possible – a hairstylist can easily adjust the tips, or you can wear the length with curls and waves, which lift it up a little anyway. Extensions that are too short, on the other hand, can't be lengthened. Better to have a little extra length in hand than to wish for more later.
